History & Facts
The International Montessori English Speaking Pre-School was founded in 1993 by a group parents who wanted an English language Montessori environment in which their children could learn and grow.

It is open to children aged 3 - 6 years and the instruction is mainly in English. Its small size (maximum of 15 children) ensures that the quality of education remains high, and that children have individual attention.

The pre-school is a recognised educational facility and as such is a non-profit, subsidized institution. As a self-help group, parents are obliged to take an active role in the administrative tasks and day-to-day affairs related to the running of the pre-school.

Staff
The aim of our pre-school is to give children of different nationalities the possibility, with the help of international staff, to integrate and to become part of our society. At the same time the understanding of different cultures will be supported and encouraged. Qualified staff, a state registered educator with Montessori and N.N.E.B diplomas and a teaching assistant, with teaching assistant Diploma, both using the Montessori teaching methods, will help "Children help children", as they also learn from each other. Furthermore, we have a part-time German teacher who completes our team. She supports particularly our international children to explore the German language.

Aims
Our pedagogical aims are orientated mainly to the Montessori methods of teaching. The environment is prepared so that the children have the possibility to choose independently with which materials they would like to occupy themselves, materials that have been constructed for the purpose of helping children to help themselves during their sensitive learning phases. With our respect, attentiveness and understanding, we co-operate with the children's demands "help me to help myself".

An important aspect of elementary learning is learning through observation and not only through taking part in an activity. In our reassuring way we encourage the children to take part in individual activities and in the group's events. Each child has his or her own development plan and by recognizing these individual plans we escort the children step by step without demanding too much or too little of them, allowing them to experience the joy of accomplishing something independently.

Our work is situation orientated which means that we pay great attention to the momentary interests of the children applying these interests and the ideas that they may put forward when planning our work. Subjects such as the changes in situations within the family and their everyday life, the seasons of the year and the different cultural festivities among other things are just a few examples.

Activities
To achieve our pedagogical goals we have the following possibilities:

As a parent- run group parents are required to assist a few hours per month with various tasks necessary for the daily operation of the school, making the school a uniquely affordable English-language Montessori school in Munich. The active participation of the parents and two dedicated teachers have helped the school earn a good reputation in Munich's local and international community.
